Successful Outing for the Youngsters

As the 2017 eventing season draws to a close Black Country Saddles sponsored event and dressage rider, Sara Squires writes about her recent competitions and team of horses.

In early October we took the young horses to Swalcliffe One-Day-Event with Sienna – also known as Royal Prospect – competing in her first event and the four-year-old Ede Peasy taking part in her third event.

The two horses did really good dressage tests and jumped well.  I was very pleased as both horses finished in the ribbons with Ede taking second place and Sienna finishing fourth.

The following weekend Sienna competed at Weston Park, in Shropshire and again I was very pleased with how she went.  I had always planned to run her non-competitively with the aim just to get her more experience before the season finished.

I have one more event in the middle of October with her and then it is the turn of the dressage horses to take centre-stage and I will be busy going out and competing them.

I currently have nine horses in to ride, train and compete with some taking time out while the others become my main focus.

Ede Peasy, also known as Ede is a four-year-old chestnut mare.  She stands 17hh and is Hanoverian-bred and currently at BE90cm level eventing.

Royal Prospect, stable name Sienna, is five-years-old and a chestnut mare.  A 16hh, Sports Horse, she is eventing at BE90cm level.

Billy Jean D, known as Billy at home is a bay mare aged six. Another standing 17hh, she too is from Hanoverian breeding and competes in eventing and dressage at Novice Level.

Carla Bruni is a six-year-old known as Carla.  She is a 16hh, Hanoverian, competing at Medium level dressage.

Bonfire Heart, or Bonfire, is a seven-year-old chestnut gelding. Of Oldenburg breeding, he is 16.1hh and competes in dressage at Novice/Elementary.

Victor Niro Cassidy Z, known as Victor, is a four-year-old bay gelding.  At 16.1hh, he is a Belgium warmblood, and is eventing at BE90cm level.

Icco is a four-year-old bay gelding.  Standing 16.2hh, he is a Dutch warmblood and is eventing at BE90cm level.

Wellfields Lincoln, known as Lincoln, is a four-year-old bay gelding.  He is a British warmblood, 16.1hh, and eventing at BE90cm level.

Finally there is Sula Blue, also known as Anakin. He is a 16-year-old Thoroughbred stallion, standing 16.1hh, dark brown and eventing at CCI3*/4* level.
